Lost, found and auctioned
More than 2,500 items are left behind by passengers at Malta International Airport each year with sunglasses, mobile phones, and garments topping the list.Malta International Airport lost and found
Some of these items were each year auctioned to raise funds for charity.
This year, bidders will be offered a selection of about 100 items to bid on, with the funds going towards the Dar tal-Providenza.
Malta International Airport raised more than €8,000 each year during the previous two editions of the auction. Money raised was donated to Hospice Malta in 2014 and The Ladybird Foundation in 2013.
The auction will be hosted by comedy duo Danusan at the airport’s newly redesigned food court.
A number of suitcases will be filled with unknown lost and found items and put up for auction as mystery luggage. Last year, the mystery luggage was the highest selling item with the bid starting at €40 and the luggage selling for €400.
Tickets for the Lost, Found & Auctioned charity event are being sold at €5 from MIA offices on weekdays between 8am and 4pm.
Those attending the auction, on December 16 at 7.30pm, will also receive a €5 food voucher, redeemable from any of the food outlets in the food court throughout December and a raffle ticket for a prize draw which will be held on the night of the auction.Malta International Airport lost property
